TRaC Review Xiao Ye Lin (Multi-TRaC, Fall 05) Reviews Rope at Drama Dept.  Once it was a zipper factory but is now a theatre. At the Zipper, there is a matching time zone for the play Rope. The theatre also has a vintage look to it since its space is filled with old automobile seats. The stairs are made of uneven and paint-chipped wood. Drinks are also allowed into the theatre, which seems to provide just the right atmosphere for the play Rope, a classical thriller by Patrick Hamilton back in 1929. The revival at the Zipper theatre creates a mood of suspense throughout the show. The performance of Rope gives a thrilling overview of murder. Two oxford students fulfill their crooked desire of killing a friend. Hiding the body in a trunk, Brandon (Mr. Trammell) and Granillo (Mr. Williams) decide to host a party for the family and friends of the deceased student, serving food on top of the trunk with his dead body inside. However, their boast of ÒvictoryÓ becomes the clue which leads to their downfall. It is the pride to show off that foils their ÒperfectÓ plan. The play has a total of two intermissions that add to the quality of the kick of the play. Each escalating point that leads to the discovery of the mystery in the chest leads to an intermission, which leaves the engaged audience suspended in excitement. The actors each did such a great job, Rope leaves the audience craving for more. It is definitely a play worth seeing. If you are up for a thrilling time at the theatre, Rope is your top pick! |
