Jack Lu Jack Reviews The National Comedy Theatre
Reading a review is all about getting the gist of an event. So what can you expect at a typical night at The National Comedy Theater? Besides a lot of laughs and a guaranteed good time, not much. That is because every show at the National Comedy Theater is entirely different, made up on the spot and designed to revolve around you, the audience! At The National Comedy Theater, two competitive teams battle for your laughter in any way possible, ranging from creating completely original Shakespearian style musicals to political satires -- whatever the audience feels like making the teams do. The teams take turns performing skits based on the audiences suggestions armed with apprpriate musical accompaniment and lightning. The funnier team is rewarded with points and is decided by what they call their "X500 Clap-o- Meter." Most others and I call it how hard and loud the audience kicks and screams in approval. And boy, at every show there is plenty of bellowing. The performers feel so obliged to make the audience get involved in the show that they get volunteers (or volunteer someone) from the audience to perform with them. So if you know anyone who has stage fright, be a friend, bring him or her to this show, and volunteer him or her up. What a better way to break stage fright than performing stand up comedy with a bunch of strangers? Afraid of really corny jokes? At The National Comedy Theater, if the performers say anything that is so extremely downright corny that it causes the audience to moan or groan in any way, the audience can choose to deduct points from the performerÕs respective teams by calling the ÒGroaner Foul.Ó Revenge is sweet. Another call the audience can make is the ÒBrown Bag Foul.Ó Whenever a performer or fellow audience member says anything that is offensive in any way to anyone in the audience, the person committing the offense is forced to wear a paper bag for the rest of the round. As a result, the show is kept clean clean and suitable for all age groups to enjoy. As you can see, at The National Comedy Theater, you the audience play an integral role of the show. For those of you who ever feel a little power hungry, this is the show for you. |
