Alexandra Reviews Mono by Another Urban Riff

Mono: Another Urban Riff, is definitely a must see. Although I can't go into detail about the event (or else I would spoil its unique quality) I must say it is a wonderfully put out show. It has a terrific cast and story line. It is set in a bar-like environment with a slew of characters. There's the two-timing French sock puppet, the mute girl and her pill-popping sister, the ghetto white boy, the struggling singer, the fed-up waitress, a new Asian immigrant, a nerdy intellectual grad-student -- and that's just a few of its characters. They all interact in an emotionally packed show. Each character pops in and out of the show, bringing with them their attitude, charisma, and life problems.

The dramatic-comedy is more then a worthwhile event. The audience is primarily between teenagers and people in their mid to late twenties (when I went there). There is mild cursing, so I'd leave the parents at home. It's a great thing to do with a small group of friends; the house lights are bright so be aware of your attire. Refreshments are served, so if you want, bring some extra cash.

If you're looking for a show that's nothing like anything else you've seen, Mono is your ticket. Most of all, be prepared for a good time. Mono will get you laughing, and all the seats give you an up-close view of the characters. Also, it's general admission, so if you're going with a group, come early so you can sit together. Mono is definitely a show to see, I give it five stars, and two thumbs up.
