Alexandra Reviews Marriage of Figaro by the New York City Opera

This season's presentation of Marriage of Figaro by the New York City Opera was nothing short of terrific. The seats were a bit far from the stage (fourth ring) but the opera was visible (and audible) and marvelous. What distinguishes Figaro from other opera's is the fact that it has many comical touches to it. Its theme centers around deceit and love, and how everything meshes comically.

If you're looking for an array of beautiful, detailed scenery and costumes then the New York State Theater is your place. If it's the orchestra, professional singing and drama that interest you, you've found your also match. And finally, if you simply want to laugh a little, relate to the past and enjoy a Friday night of musical theater, then Figaro is your show.

Of course, opera's not for everyone, and it can be a bit long (compared to other theatrical shows), but it's well worth the time. Enjoy yourself, get cultured, feel spiffy and see The Marriage of Figaro at New York State Theater. You'll be amazed how quickly you lose sense of the fact that outside of this magnificent theater is the bustle and hurry of the twentieth century.
