ABOUT HIGH 5 High 5 Tickets to the Arts is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the arts affordable for teens. Through High 5, teens ages 13 to 18 can buy $5 tickets to the best of New York City dance, music, theater and visual arts events all year round. In order to purchase tickets, all you need is an interest in the arts, a school ID and $5. Each teen may buy one extra $5 ticket for an adult if you'd like to go with a parent, teacher or mentor. If you would like to go to an arts event as a group, use our Take 5 Program to buy 5 tickets at $5 each and get a sixth ticket free to use for a teen or adult. If you are interested in the visual arts, tickets to museums are two for $5 every day. We also have theater, dance, symphonies, Hip-Hop, film and spoken work, so check out our Events & Shows page for the Events Calendar and Picks of the Week. To purchase the tickets, you can do so online with a credit card or with cash at the High 5 office located at 1 East 53rd Street, 5th Floor (near the 5th & 53rd stop on the E or V lines). Or call us at 212-750-0555 and we can process your order over the phone during office hours. All the arts, all the time, all for $5. HOW DID HIGH 5 COME ABOUT? High 5 Tickets to the Arts began when a New York City high school student visited Europe and found affordable student tickets to the opera, the theater and the symphony widely available. She saw that teens regularly took advantage of the discounted tickets and formed an active part of arts audiences. When she returned home, she wanted to replicate that experience for teens in New York City. With her involvement, High 5 began as a volunteer effort in 1993, a cooperative undertaking that included staff at the American Symphony Orchestra, The New York Times and Ticketmaster. Two years later, in 1995, with a grant from Citigroup, High 5 made the transition from a volunteer organization to an independent non-profit with a full time Executive Director and a small staff and board. One thousand $5 tickets were sold in High 5's first three months. Since then, we have sold more than 100,000 tickets; our advertising has reached millions of readers; and we've built a mailing list of more than 50,000 teens and their parents, mentors and teachers. We've even expanded into other cities including Columbus, Ohio; Freeport, Long Island; Seattle, Washington; and Auckland, New Zealand. Not only does High 5 rely on the generous help from kind funders, but also on the help of hundreds of New York City's most important arts institutions. High 5 tickets are donated by more than 250 participating arts organizations that are committed to creating an arts audience for the new millennium.
